Corlandver Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Groaning slightly as the morning light slowly arose him from his sleep, Vall sleepily turned to his side to catch a few extra minutes of sleep; he wasn’t much of a morning person anyways. He had been quite tired as of recently but he couldn’t put his finger on why. It could have had something to do with the weather but he normally wasn’t this tired. As he was starting to doze off again, someone started to violently knock at his door.

“Wake up, Vall! We have a big day of searching today!” Judy yelled enthusiastically as she kicked his bedroom door open.

Sighing at the sudden intrusion, Vall sat up in his bed and rubbed his eyes before looking towards Judy who was opening his curtains further to let more light into the spacious room.

“I know, I know.. I’ve just been tired recently.” Vall said in a groggy voice, still not used to talking yet. Ever since October had begun, he felt rather… off. He didn’t know why either and it seems as though it was only impacting him.

Judy chuckled as she danced over to his door before stating that breakfast was ready, ‘your favourite~’ she sang before closing his bedroom door.

Vall got out of bed and stretched before looking at his calendar. It was the 28th and everyone was buzzing around, preparing for the cold winter coming in just a few short weeks and about how they’re excited to mess around once the first snowfall hits.. Well, everyone except for him.. Shaking his head and sighing, Vall got ready to start his morning with a nice warm shower and one of his favourite outfits; it was rather elegant with hues of gold and red. He had recently found out that he was part of the royal bloodline and that he had been lost for over 10 years. The entire process of getting checked by every doctor for DNA tests had been rather dizzying, but everything came out as positive. Chuckling at the thought, Vail stepped out of his bedroom and down the elegant hall towards the dining room.

“Ahh, there you are, Vall. We were wondering if you had fallen asleep again.” Tancer announced as Vall stepped into the grand room. Everyone chuckled at the comment as Vall took his seat right beside Judy.

“Not quite, but I sure felt like it.” was Vall’s response before he took a bite of smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, everyone else had a murmur of ‘we’ve all had those days, am’I’rite?’ before starting to dine in a comfortable silence.

After cleaning up and washing the dishes, Vall still didn’t feel 100% awake and it was starting to bug him. He went out into the courtyard to see if the sun could keep him from drowsing off as he sat in the middle of a clover patch with a few roses spread throughout the area. Roses.. For some reason, Vall always felt a wave of nostalgia overcome him when he smelled their scent. Maybe it had something to do with his very confusing past but until then, it will always be a mystery for him. Taking a deep breath, Vall stretched his arms over his head and closed his eyes to enjoy the rays while they lasted. Who knew how many more warm days they have left before it started snowing.

Snow.

Snow…

Snow

There were signs of snow that night but of course, they had to be given the task of guarding the base until the Obsidian Team got back from their investigation; the only member left always wanted to walk which made the job a bit more tedious but he wasn’t going to complain. He was their only way of winning, anyways. Ever since the war had started, the weather had been getting colder more quickly than usual and the sun would start to set before 15:30. It struck him as rather odd and he wasn’t the only one who had noticed, he would hear murmurs among groups about new things that were happening. Not only that, but it seemed that the enemy team was getting more unpredictable with their attacks, which meant that they had to be more cautious of what they were doing. The only person who seemed to predict their every move was Calibre. Speaking of Calibre, he should be returning right about now, considering that he wasn’t on the truck that drove in 15 minutes earlier.

But yet, no sign of him.

He waited.

And waited.

But he never returned.

Panic started to overtake him as he left his post to tell someone that Calibre hadn’t returned yet. This wasn’t like him, not ever has he been late when returning. He ran up to his Commander’s Quarters and knocked rather harshly on the door. About 15 seconds later, the door was opened with a tired but rather confused face.

“Calibre hasn’t returned”

Gasping, Vall woke with a start. He rose a hand to his head to run his fingers through his hair. They all seemed to have a theme that someone would have gone missing and that they were a very important person.. but who were they? It was Calibre this time. Somehow, that name sounded rather familiar when he was dreaming. Was Calibre an important friend of his from long ago? Vall’s head hurt when he tried to remember.

“Who was Calibre..?” he asked into thin air.

“He was that Legendary Sniper from the Old Kingdom, the one who knew every step from the enemy! He knew how to use a gun like he was part of it, a Legend among men! He even had a cool death that matched him perfectly, no one knew him when he was alive, no one knew how he died! A mystery!” Judy exclaimed very close to Valls ear, startling him from his thoughts as he hadn’t been expecting an answer.

“Oh goodness, Judy. I didn’t notice you were here.” Vall responded as Judy came closer to sit beside him.

“Why did you want to know who Calibre was? Didn’t you read the books about him? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you read most of them at least 15 times.” Chuckling, Vall nodded before he looked over to a rose nearby as he tried to think, ‘Why did I ask about who he was? I already know him from everything people have written about him..’ Coming up with no answer, Vall just shrugged.

“I don’t know why I asked.. I guess I was sort of confused from the dream that I had just now.” Judy hummed and nodded before she looked over at Vall.

“What was your dream about? I-If you don’t mind me asking of course!” Judy stuttered before turning to him fully to show that Vall had her full attention. Vall’s expressing became rather sad as he started to explain the best he could.

“It was about a war.. I think. I was waiting for Calibre to come back.. from something.. I can’t remember what it was… But he never came back and I started to panic. I ran to what I think would have been the Commander’s Quarters and the last thing I remember was that I said something like ‘Calibre’s not back yet’ or ‘Calibre has not returned from the mission…’ something along those lines before I woke up.” He said before looking back to Judy to only find her expression painted with shock.

“Maybe.. That wasn’t a dream but rather a vision from the past? Oh my goodness, Vall! You may just be the key to finding out what happened! Oh boy, have you had any other dreams like this before?” Vall started to flush as he turned away.

“I-I guess-” He was cut off by Judy practically knocking him over into the soft patch of clovers.

“Tell me! I want to see if any of this adds up!” Vall looked into Judy’s eyes, he could never say no to his long-time friend.

“Well… I had this other dream the other night where.. … . . . . ..”
