Goals for this Semester

At the end of the semester, I would like to achieve a better knowledge of the electronics that I use everyday and how to further enhance my skills so that I can get the best quality/usage out of them.  Using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator to create short comic stories or detailed pictures.

  1. Make a miniature Comic with a starting, plot characters, climax and ending. (preferably more than 50 frames) This will help me because it’s a basic (not really) task that can help me get comfortable with the software that I’m using to draw the panels. For a challenge, I can alternate between various software to see which ones I enjoy more and which ones give out the best quality.
  2. Make a speedpaint of a detailed picture with a background and various layers and colours (Could be something related to Mount Sentinel) I will have to learn how to stream (Not really) whilst drawing and learn how to cut out errors to make the video appear better (And to not waste the viewers time). This will also help me learn how to use different brushes (Fading/light brushes and colour blending) which will make the end picture look as high quality as I could possibly muster.
  3. Making a frame by frame animation that is at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds in length (Possibly with music) This will further enhance my skills because I’m most likely going to be drawing 15 frames per second, which allows me to explore tools that  may have missed or not used much for the comic or speed drawing and will also help me configure better animation as well.

For the comic- Does it make sense? Are the drawings clear? Is the story easy to follow? (I guess plot, story and character development don’t count but you can be picky and mark me on that too)

For the Animation video- Is it choppy? If there is lip syncing, does it sync well? Is it triggering ( seizures, violence [I won’t draw this though])?

For the speedpaint- Is the editing good (editing out errors)? Since I’m going to colour it, do the colours go together well? Is there too much to look at (More than one focal point [many places that are eye-candy so you can’t focus on one main point])?

I will not draw violence, abuse or nudity for obvious reasons. I will however draw blood ’cause I’m a rebel.

I will draw (If I have to) characters in a swimsuit, but that’s as far as I’ll go.

I have picked this goal because I really want to have a small hobby of digital art and one day to sell prompts for friends or people interested in it. I love art and I think learning how to use all the programs correctly will really help me further down the road. Also as the years go on, more people are moving to technology, so I might as well. I picked these projects to really challenge myself as an artist. Drawing almost the same thing (for the music video) may be hard, but will help my skills on becoming better at drawing that I thought impossible (For my skill level) be possible as I continuously draw it. In a way, the projects that I gave myself will not only help my skills in the programs that I’m using, but also my art skills as well.

My main source of motivation is a digital artist that goes by the name of Astra Ligo (Or DNA Pudding, your call); they’re super good at art and they are the one who has inspired me to draw at least once a week (If not more) and their art is very eye-catching. The colours that Astra uses always make their art stand out and I would like to follow in their footsteps so that my art can be just as eye-popping as Astra’s. I don’t really want to copy their style of art because I already have my own style but I really like the way their art is so appealing.
